TAKE INITIATIVE

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb (Matthew 28:1).

The people that make real progress in life are those who are proactive, who take initiatives. They get things started, they get things going, and they get things done. They are unlike others who only react to whatever happens, whose lives are lived at the dictates of others, and the crises of life.

In our text today, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary became the rst human to see the risen Christ, and to take His message of salvation to the world because they took the initiative. Following the harrowing experience of the agonising death of Christ on the cross of Calvary, all His followers withdrew into their shells, both male and female. But Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.” They went out of their shells. They took the initiative. They did something. Today they are celebrated as heroines of faith because they were proactive about the things of Christ. When our resurrected Christ gave the Great Commission to His followers, He even expected us to take initiatives, to make moves, in order to ful ll the commission. He said:

Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15).

Our Lord here engaged the use of active verbs in giving His command. “Go ye into all the world, preach the gospel to every creature.” Go. Preach the Gospel. Jesus was asking us to be proactive, to take the initiatives, to
act. We will not take the world for Jesus by seating in an armchair. We must ‘go.’ We must act. We must be proactive. We must not be passive. It is only those who are proactive, who take initiative, as led by the Holy Spirit
that will win the world for Christ.

The early disciples set us a clear example in this. After the Lord spoke to them, they went into action. And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen (Mark 16:20).

What are you going to do about the great commission that Jesus Christ gave to us? What steps will you take today? What moves? If you will take the initiative, and move to preach the gospel of Christ, the Lord will work with you,
confirming your word with signs and wonders following. It is time to be proactive about the preaching of the gospel of Christ.

Whereupon, o king Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision. But showed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance (Acts 26:29-20).
