Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God (Lk. 1:34-35).
The Holy Spirit is the Chief Executive of God’s operations on earth today. Whatever God wants to do, particularly as it affects the Church and the salvation of men, He does it by the Holy Spirit. If you therefore want to be an instrument in the hand of God, you must be filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit. In our text today, Mary asked the angel of God how it was going to be possible for her to conceive while still being a virgin.
The answer was very simple. “The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, the power of the highest shall overshadow thee…” When the Holy Spirit is at work through a human vessel, impossibilities become possibilities; miracles, signs and wonders are commonplace. May you be an instrument of His power. The Holy Spirit is not a force, or an influence, or a power. He is the third personality of the divine Godhead. He speaks. He moves. He inspires. He directs, He knows. He feels. He can be grieved. All attributes of a personality are associated with Him because He is a person. When Jesus was leaving the earth, He promised to send the Holy Spirit, another Comforter that He may be with us forever. He told His disciples to
wait in Jerusalem until they are endued with the power of the Holy Spirit from on high. He said it was the Holy Spirit that will equip them for their assignment. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8).
On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came, filled the 120 disciples that were in the upper room, and they spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. The Holy Spirit has since been in the world, to fill and anoint and equip whosoever makes himself/herself available so that they can do the will of God on the earth. You can be born of the Holy Spirit. You can be filled with the Holy Spirit.
You can be anointed of the Holy Spirit for a particular assignment. You can be clothed with the gift of the Holy Spirit so that you can function effectively in the body of Christ. You can manifest any of the fruit of the Spirit: they are proofs that you are growing in the grace of God. You can be called into any of the Ministry gift offices, so you will function as a leader in the body of Christ.
The Holy Spirit can teach you the word of God. He can give you wisdom and understanding in the will of God. He can lead you step by step into the plan of God for your life. He can assist you to maximize your potentials and to make full proof of your Ministry. The best thing you can do for yourself after you become born again is to open up your entire life to the communion of the Holy Spirit. He is your guide into destiny fulfillment. Give Him room and He will use you mightily to accomplish the purpose of God.
And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man (1 Sam. 10:6).
