HOW TO DO YOUR WORK

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything and do it, not only when their eyes is on you and to win their favour, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men (Col. 3:22-23, NIV).

If you are going to be successful and great in life, then you must be diligent in the work that you do. No matter what your work is, and no matter who your boss may be, as a believer in Christ, you are to do your work ‘with all sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord, working at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men’ This was the attitude of Joseph of old. Whether in the house of his father, in the house of Portiphar his slave master, in prison where he was unjustly kept or in the palace of Pharaoh, the attitude of Joseph to his work was the same: diligence, faithfulness, productivity, loyalty. And God lifted him in due season.

Unfortunately many believers are not this faithful on their job because they think it is a low level, ‘small’, ‘insignificant’ job. But Jesus our Lord said if you are not faithful ‘in that which is least that which is much cannot be committed to you.’ Yet some excuse their unfaithfulness because it is ‘another man’s work.’ Again our Lord said if you are not faithful in that which is another man’s, your own will never come to you. You are not to do eye service either, pleasing those you serve when they are around, but doing something else when they are away.

As a believer, you are to do your work diligently, faithfully, knowing that God Who sees all things is the One who determines your reward. Therefore, it is time to repent of all unfaithfulness of the past and rededicate yourself to the Lord- to be diligent, faithful in your work. And it shall be well with you.

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men (Prov. 22:29).
