For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy. Wise planning will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe (Proverbs 2:10-11, NLT).
There are certain elements you need in life to be prosperous and safe. According to our text today, these include wisdom, knowledge, understanding and wise planning. If you observe closely, some are gifts from God while some are products of diligence on your part. For example, wisdom comes from God to those who ask Him (James 1:5; Prov. 2:6). But wise planning is your own job. Yet, wise planning will watch over you, and keep you safe! All through the scripture, wise planning is emphasised as a practice of anyone who accomplished great things. God Almighty planned the entire creation, and the creation of man, before He went to work (Genesis 1:1-2, Genesis 1:26).
Men planned to build the tower of Babel, and God said that because of their unity and wise planning they were going to accomplish what they wanted (Genesis 11:1-6). Jesus said someone who would build a tower must first sit down and count the cost before embarking on the project (Luke 14:28). To plan is to consider where you are now, where you want to be at a future given time and what it will take you to move from where you are to where you are going. Those who do it wisely arrive at their destination with the help of God. Those who do not keep wandering in the wilderness of life, running on the spot and going nowhere. Beloved, it is time to engage in wise planning. It is time to think about your future and lay out a definite action plan to reach your goals. The Lord, by the Holy Spirit, will help you in this regard.
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom (Psalm 90:12).
