For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20).
When the people of God gather together to worship the Lord, to study God’s Word and to pray, the Lord is in our midst (Matt. 18:20). He has promised it, and His credit is good! We may be only two, or three, or thousands, or millions, the Lord is there with us, to receive our worship, to release His Word, to answer our prayers and to bless His people.
The Bible is very clear that “the Lord our God in the midst of us is mighty. He will save; he will rejoice over us with joy; He will joy over us with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).When we come together therefore, we should be conscious of the truth that the Almighty God is with us in the fullness of His power and glory (Isaiah 4:5-6).
When we go to battle in the name of the Lord – to win souls, to plant churches, to do mission work, and to bless the world, the Lord our God is amongst us, to fight for us, to defeat the enemies, to bring souls to Himself, and to give us success in our endeavours. Therefore “do not be terrified … for the Lord, your God, who is among you is a great and awesome God” (Deut. 7:21, NIV).
Therefore, be bold and courageous to go for evangelism, church planting and mission. In these ventures, you are not alone. Like with the early apostles, the Lord goes with us, working with us, confirming His word with signs following (Mark 16:20).
Finally, whenever the enemy comes against us, to attack us, we are not alone. God is with us like a mighty terrible one, to defend us and turn our enemies to fight (Jer. 20:11). He is our defence, and our defence is sure (Psalm 89:18). Our Redeemer is strong: the Lord of hosts is His name (Jer.50:34).
The attack may come on the home front; it may be an attack against any of your children, or against your health, or against your finances. The attack may be at work, about your school or career or your business. Where the attack is, you are not alone. The Lord is there to fight for you. Therefore, do not panic. Be bold. Be strong. The Lord your God is with you to give you the victory, and to make you more than a conqueror today. It is well with you.
Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you (2 Chron. 20:17).
