Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob. Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery. Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day (Psalm 81:1-3).
The best thing to do today is to give thanks to God, to celebrate His goodness and to worship His Holy name. Three hundred and sixty-five days have gone and here you are alive and well, set to witness the start of another year and a new beginning of destiny fulfillment. If anyone should celebrate the Lord, that should be you. Many started with us this year but they are no more. But by the mercies of God we are preserved. Nothing is more fitting than to give thanks. If you take a close look into your life, you will see that you are not where you used to be one year ago. Within one year, God has done so much, for which He deserves glory, praise and honour.
Our psalm today says we should sing aloud unto God because He has been our strength. It says we should make a joyful noise to our God, because he has been there for us. He said we should take a psalm – your own song – and give it to Him from your heart. It says we should bring the instruments of music and dance to the Lord our God, because it is the new moon, a new season. Today, rejoice and be glad.
Focus on the good things the Lord has done in your life. Ignore the distraction the enemy is using in trying to lure you into negative emotions. Go to the house of God to rejoice, to give thanks and to commit your future into His hands. Celebrate God for all He has done. As you celebrate your God, you are setting the stage for greater blessings in the New Year.
For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations (Psalm 100:5).
