YOU WILL BE A GLORIOUS SIGN, NOT A WARNING SIGN

And the sons of Eliab were Nemuel, Dathan and Abiram. The same Dathan and Abiram were the community officials who rebelled against Moses and Aaron and were among Korah’s followers when they rebelled against the LORD. The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them along with Korah, whose followers died when the fire devoured the 250 men. And they served as a warning sign (Number 26:9-10, NIV).

The Bible is full of glowing examples of “those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honour and immortality” (Romans 2:7, NIV). Abraham. Moses. Joseph. Samuel. Daniel. Esther. Peter. Paul. The list is endless, and surely, your name can be added to it. Yet, we have a long list of those who serve as a warning sign, like Jesus said: “Remember Lot’s wife” (Luke 17:32). That is a whole verse of the scripture, an eternal warning on the consequence of disobedience to divine instructions.

Again, the word of God warns “lest there be any fornicator or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright” (Hebrews 12:16). In out text today, we are told Dathan, and Abiram became a warning sign so that we may not follow their evil ways. I urge you to make your mind to become an example of godliness, not to serve as a warning sign. If this shall be so, then

  1. You must be truly born again, submitting your life totally to Jesus Christ as your Lord. He is the only one that can deliver you from sin (Matthew 1:21).
  1. Renounce every sin, evil, iniquity, rebellion and dedicate your life fully to God, to be holy and unblameable in His sight (1 Peter 1:15-17).
  1. Commit yourself to doing good, persistently. Praying. Studying the Word of God. Winning souls. Feeding the poor. Helping the helpless. Being faithful and God-fearing in all your ways, looking for the mercy of God at the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ in glory (Jude 20-21).
  2. Follow the godly examples of those who by doing good secured a good testimony, as recorded in the Bible (Hebrews 6:12). You will be a glorious example, not a warning sign. In Jesus mighty name.

Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God(3 John 11).
